Grace and works

Not intended as pun, our world view does make us 'view' the world differently.

Since I done an Ironman in 2007, a lot of my friends and love ones often congratulate me and asked me how is it possible for me to 'work' to earn this Ironman.  In our society, the idea that you have to work to earn it is very strong.  If you want to get a better job, you need to take more courses and work your way to the top.  Find the girl of your dreams? Well, you better impress her with lots of gifts, surprises, be funny and be charming.  To have a comfortable lifestyle with your dream vacation/house/car, you better work for it.

I can see the same world view apply to my triathlon, racing experience as well.  I have to work hard to race hard.

The more I see God is at work in my life, the more my world view change.  I started to see the Ironman and my races as nothing more than gifts.   It is a gift given to me.  Not that I really work at to earn them.  It is grace given to train hard.  It is a free gift to participate in the race.

It is truly grace...granted, this is a small tiny analogy of God's grace of coming to earth to establish His Kingdom.

Just a random thought as I prepared a Bible Study on Matthew 5..the Beatitudes...

Jesus said..in Matthew 5:17:

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

Emphasizing on Jesus as the ONE who comes to fulfill.  Not for us who work our way to complete them.

When I see how God 'works' in my life, there is only one response...REJOICE.
