The devo today was talking about a guy who put marathon training on top of God. One of the passage to read was Matthew 4. This is a chapter where Satan tempted Jesus for 40 days.
What struck me about this passage is the last temptation used by Satan....
Satan showed Jesus everything in the world and all its delight. I don't think I even need Satan to showed me everything in the world to tempt me.8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9"All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."
10Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'[d]"
Recently, I got a new tri bike, a new laptop and a new phone. These gadgets are fun to play and to work with. They have many features which I simply drop my mouth and say..'cool'.
My new tri-bike (2004 Cervelo) is wickedly fast. It is light and responsive. I can hold it up with one hand easily. Plus the paint job is sweet looking.
It is so easily to get distracted at times. The bike is nothing more than metal and some pieces of plastic. Like anything in life, it will faded away. Yet it can be as easily as an idol to worship.
Jesus' responded to Satan was simply, 'Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'
Everyday I have to remind myself that it is God who provides for my daily needs.
My liver transplant serve a good reminder that my life is not my own. It is not my doing that kept me alive. I am nothing more than just a person in charge of my body and the resources I am given. And I plan to manage them as best as I can in the name of the Lord.
